Happy Talking Together
The hearth that beckons me home,
to the cavern of my childhood.
Winter, which is a blessing,
the season is shadows dancing
on the stairs. Yule is a circle,
one that gathers
us, talking together,
evergreen in the window.
Just a reminder that there's no right way to do this. If you write one, please share it with me (subscribers can comment on this post!), share it on our paid subscriber chat, or post it on Instagram. My handle is @K8belew.
Happy Yule
Hearth in my heart
Lights the Yule night
In my cavern of memory
Winter's arrived
Friendships revive
In this season of reverie
Shadow and Light
Converse on Yule night
In this circle of love's jubilee
An evergreen hug
Joins below and above
In this circle of Yule's mystery.
Thank you.
95: Happy Is a Feeling with Space Around It
12/28/24
Hearth that holds the home’s heart, filled with tall
candlesticks, candles lit as an easier fire,
a cavern of light in the moody blue and polished
walnut of a living room in a vision board. This
winter, which brings surprising thunder and
lightning, also may bring armloads of poetry.
The season makes magic with cozy spells, sliced
citrus and ginger-scented apples, the words
are shadows of tree branches arranged on
snow-fields of pages. We make a spell for a
circle to encircle the tribe, open to the forgotten
and lost, open to wealth found in the giving.
We are evergreen to the core. Our needles drench
our roots in fog, our large limbs become
the yule log.
