Weekly Magic 1.27.26
A scrapbook of my creative life
What I’ve been inspired by this week…
I went to see Hamnet over the weekend. And it was so beautiful. I can’t recommend it enough.
In the same thread…James Baldwin on Shakespeare.
“The staff ate it later.”
It’s my birthday on Thursday, January 29th.
Sentiments on the importance of art from Rob Brezsny.
I’m the seasonal co-host on The Moon in Carolina with Shelby Bundy! This week’s episode, “In episode sixty-three of The Moon in Carolina, host Shelby Bundy is joined again by her winter season co-host Kate Belew to discuss the hauntings of winter. Listen in as they ponder the possibility of winter ghosts, hermiting, and leaning into the month that is closest to death.” Listen here.
In episode 170 of the Magick & Alchemy podcast by Tamed Wild Kristin Lisenby and I interview Sanyu Estelle. Sanyu is an author, artist, and Word Witch whose work challenges supremacist narratives while exploring the intersection of cultures, histories, and ontologies. In this conversation, Sanyu speaks about the magical lanterns of poetry and magic. Together, three witches discuss creativity and word witchery, tracing their way back into the roots of words as sacred secrets. Sanyu guides listeners toward new approaches to their craft, infusing each action with a sense of possibility and enchantment. She shares what it means to be a Word Witch, and how to work with your gut messages and intuitive hits as missives from past and future selves. Listen here.
My friend Cat Willett created this beautiful calendar to celebrate beautiful bookstores of Brooklyn. I love it so much and intend to visit them all this year. Learn more.
I was so thrilled to join Megan Hamilton on the Embracing Enchantment podcast! Together, we talk about the role of intentionality in creativity and magic, highlighting how rituals and practices can help individuals connect with their creative selves. We discuss how everyone is inherently creative, regardless of background or experience, and how writing and other forms of expression can serve as powerful tools for self-discovery and connection. We also reflect on hope, community, and the magic of existence (hopefully!), leaving listeners inspired to explore their own creative journeys. Listen here.
