Leo is the creative, the solar energy that stands in the center stage, the loyal artist, the dreamer.
This week is a full moon in Leo on Wednesday, February 12th. Leo is a fixed fire sign, which corresponds with the fire element and occurs between the solstice and equinox in the middle of a season. In Astrology, Psychology, and the Four Elements, an Energy Approach to Astrology & its Use in the Counseling Arts by Stephen Arroyo, M.A., the fire signs are described like this…
“The fire signs exemplify high spirits, great faith in themselves, enthusiasm, unending strength, and direct honesty. They need a great deal of freedom in order to express themselves naturally… Fire signs also are able to direct their willpower consciously (although not always consistently) better than other signs.”
And so, it's no surprise that center-stage Leo is connected with this element. Ruled by the Sun, Leo asks us to shine and to make. In the words of Danielle Dulsky in The Holy Wild, “To be human is to be tasked to create. We are born with the capacity to feel deeply for a reason, with the instinct to make something new out of the old and birth some great majesty from the union between body and imagination.”
Telling your story is a way to reclaim your power and voice and find healing through making and creativity. This is a part of your toolbox; beyond a tool, this is an artifact of your life. By using your voice, you honor those who came before you, taught and continue to teach you, and fought alongside you in passion and with deep, deep love. This is all the roar of Leo. Do you hear it?
Leo is the lion, the archetypal hunter, the member of the pack and pride, the soft-footed, wild-maned, the royalty of the more than human kingdom, our kin. Seek what inspires these next few weeks, find what is feral in your heart, and allow yourself to partner with the fire in sacred collaboration.
Tend to the flame and reignite your creativity.
Writing Prompts for the Full Moon in Leo:
Lions live in groups called prides. From Middle English, pride means “prowess or spirit in an animal." This full moon asks you to connect with what you’re proud of and to celebrate your animal spirit. Explore with your pen, all that roars inside of you that wants to be honored.
Leo loves a truth-teller. Muriel Rukeyser said, “What would happen if one woman told the truth about her life? The world would split open.” Know that this full moon can hold you in your telling; write a page that tells a truth about something you haven’t written about before.
Can a roar be translated to the page? An adult male lion’s roar can be heard up to eight km away. Walt Whitman wrote in “Song of Myself,” “I sound my barbaric yawp over the roofs of the world.” Roar on the page, sound your barbaric yawp in your journal under the light of the full moon. Start your writing with, “Hear me, I roar…”
